Understanding your Circuitry: Root

When I say “circuitry” I am talking about your unique energy configuration; the combination of undefined and defined energy centers as well as gates and channels. Each energy center processes a specific “flavor” of energy and the gates/channels further color that. Where you have definition, you have a consistent way of processing that type of energy and it is less affected by your environment. Your open and undefined centers, in contrast, are variable and are deeply affected by your environment.

In addition, the energy centers that are connected via a channel (a line connecting to centers together) work together as a team or unit, further influencing how that energy manifests in you.

Let’s journey together through all nine energy centers, starting with the foundational energy of the Root Center.

The Root Center: a pressure and motor center that governs the adrenals and creates adrenaline energy to get things into motion.

If you have this center DEFINED, you will have the bottom square of your bodygraph colored in brown.

Characteristics of the DEFINED ROOT:

  • Consistent way of processing adrenaline energy and getting things into motion
  • You may be more likely to remain calm under pressure to get things done and less prone to adrenal exhaustion
  • This energy operates as a pulsating, cyclical energy and is further influenced by the gates/channels coming off of the center:

Root Center Channels:

  • Recognition, 41-30:
    • An intense (emotional) energy to get something into motion and self expression. After you’ve experienced deeply, you may feel to share your experience with others not necessarily verbally, but through an art form.
  • Emoting, 39-55:
    • Creates a moodiness and perhaps even melancholy with a focus on relationships, love, and passion. It may feel like swinging from being very certain to very unsure and back again. Channel these moods into fuel for creative expression.
  • Synthesis, 19-49:
    • Strong focus on belonging and a drive to provide for the basic needs of the tribe (those closest to you). There is a strong desire to be wanted and needed, which when not checked can contribute to codependency. Wait to be invited into this position before giving.
  • Concentration, 52-9:
    • This is the energy potential of being able to be still and really focus in on what’s in front of you and then sharing what you’ve learned with the tribe. It’s about doing something repeatedly until it is mastered. Not just studying but actually applying what has been learned intellectually. Just know that it comes in pulses and can only be utilized when it is “on”.
  • Mutation, 60-3:
    • The potential for change as a collective rides on the ability to accept limitation and to persevere through the challenges of getting started. Allowing yourself to get lost in your process allows for new clarity to be revealed to you. Don’t let “down” time get you down; think of it as a gestation period where new insights are getting ready to be revealed to you.
  • Maturation, 53-42:
    • The energy of learning and maturing through experience. Being very clear in responding only to those experiences that light you up, so that you don’t get caught up in a long term project that you aren’t passionate about.
  • Transformation, 54-32:
    • This channel holds the energy of ambition to provide for oneself. Not only in developing oneself but also being aware of potential support from others. You must recognize the value in what you are offering and wait to be invited to share it with your tribe.
  • Struggle, 38-28:
    • This is the energy of undergoing struggle to find the deeper meaning and purpose of life. It carries undercurrents of the fear of running out of time/death and that life has no meaning. It strives to find deeper meaning. It is important that you engage in the energetically aligned struggle otherwise it can feel like perpetual struggle with no insights.
  • Judgement, 58-18:
    • This is the ability to perceive how things could be tweaked to operate smoothly in order to create more joy and vitality. It’s an instinctual intuitive knowing and there’s an urge to jump in and stop those from impeding this flow. Trust that this is a gift for you, but it must be invited in, in order to create harmonious change.

Root Center Gates:

  • Joy-(58): this is the energy of the joy of living. If you are living in alignment (following your strategy and authority), you will feel a pervasive joy about life. If not, you may feel very cynical and bitter about life. There is a striving to continuously make things better and when mastered, you can be a great resource to others.
  • The Fighter-(38): this is the energy of striving and engaging in struggle to find the meaning and purpose of life. There is a very stubborn, determined quality to this energy; if you have this gate defined, you are not afraid to fight and stand for what is valuable to you. You may also find that your choices are provocative for others; they either love or hate what you are doing. Wait to be invited into the correct struggle and you will find your people and place in the world.
  • Drive-(54): this is the energy of ambition. There is a willingness to put in the work, to strive to accomplish your dreams and goals. There can be a tendency to overwork and create exhaustion/burnout. Aligning this energy with your strategy and authority, and recognizing your own value can create limitless possibilities.
  • Starting Things-(53): this is the pulse of energy to get something started. It can be a common pattern to start many things and not finish them. When following your strategy and authority to decide WHAT to start, you will attract in the people and situations that allow others to step in where you leave off. Great in positions of getting something started; less inclined to manage and close projects.
  • Stillness-(52): this gate holds the energy of potential to sit in still concentration for long periods of time. It is not necessarily focused on any one thing in particular (unless it is connected to gate 9). It is a creative energy, one that allows you to hold a vision for yourself and your goals, waiting for the aligned time to act.
  • Acceptance-(60): this is an energy of holding onto past patterns that have served humanity, while simultaneously seeking new information to evolve. Decisions are made with great caution, care, and intention.
  • Fantasy-(41): this is an initiating energy, one that takes ideas and actively applies them to create something. It has an imaginative, visualizing quality to it, and when the right time comes, creative action can be taken.
  • Wanting-(19): this is a very delicate and sensitive gate; sensitive to others’ needs, to shifts in energy, and even sensitive to touch and taste. It requires a lot of trust and connection in order to really let others in.
  • Provocation-(39): this is a very creative and passionate energy, one that seeks to stir things up to be transcended. It is the energy of shaking things up so that new and more aligned patterns can emerge. This energy can feel uncomfortable for both the expresser and the receiver, but ultimately it is used with the intention to restore abundance and possibility.
If this center is UNDEFINED or completely OPEN for you, it will be white.

Characteristics of the Undefined Root:

  • Inconsistent access to adrenaline “get up and go” energy; it will vary depending on your environment. You take on this energy from others and amplify it.
  • Can feel an intense pressure to get everything done before you can relax
  • May find yourself seeking out adrenaline producing people, activities, and things (e.g., caffeine, chocolate, skydiving, live concerts)
  • Important to recognize that the work is never done and that regular rest is necessary to productivity
As you can see, there is A LOT of information from any one energy center, and even any one gate in the bodygraph! Let the information sink in slowly, and always come back to following your strategy and authority when it feels overwhelming!
